Weekend Getaway - Korigad Fort

The best part of living in Pune, are the perfect unplanned getaways. Pune is surrounded by scenic beauty. Be it Lonavla, Khandala, Mahabaleshwar etc.
This weekend we decided for trek tour to Korigad Fort near Lonavla.

Korigad is a hill fort located about 20 km south of Lonavla in Pune district. It is about 923 m above sea level. The township of Aamby Valley is built over the fort's southern and eastern foothills.

As we neared Lonavala, a misty octopus started stretching his tentacles all over. The trees were engulfed as they swayed to breathe from its hold, the mountains were covered, the roads disappeared and you could practically see nothing beyond a few metres with dangerous Fog all over.
After about an hour drive we reached our destination, Peth Shahpur which was the base village for the trek.

The Korigad trek is a simple one-dats what my friends told me. Though I am not a very Trekking fan this experience turned out to be mind blowing.

The initial 15-20 minutes is through a forest and you get to see the peak of the fort on your right while you walk. The sloshing mud and the runway clouds high up above capture your attention.

In the middle of the forest, suddenly, out of nowhere appear steps which lead to the fort. Beware of the wandering Monkeys though.

Finally after god knows how many steps we finally reached our destination. The absolute stunning scenery all arond. As we wandered the fort along its edges, we could hardly see the valley below and was covered by the clouds.

A mere 4-5 seconds disappearance of the sheet of clouds exposed the beautiful surrounding of the Amby valley and the entire landscape.

There are 2 good lakes and some people were having a good time in them. In the blinding mist, the sound of the waves formed by the lake seem like you are near to an ocean. It literally gives you a feeling that you are walking the length of a bridge on a wide ocean.

It was fun walking the entire circumference of the fort. The wind sloshed us with all its might and wouldn’t stop and made it difficult to balance and was literally blowing us away.

Even amidst the wind and the rain we still had our chai and bhajiya at a tapri above the fort. The experience was breathtaking and was truly an experience on Cloud 9.
