Thailand - Land of smiles - The Bangkok Chapter

Many traveler's first ever taste of the tropics, Thailand hits you in the face the second you step outside the Bangkok airport. Yes I am talking about the humidity and the hot weather. But as they say The land of smiles and scams is a full-on Asian assault of cool, beauty, mentalness, sleaze, and pure uninhibited fun.

Bangkok

Our fun started by the airport link Sky-Train (That's the metro rail in Bangkok) to Sukhumvit.
P.S. The Airport Rail Link connects you to the MRT underground at Makkasan City Interchange Station (MRT Petchaburi Station) and the BTS Skytrain at Phayathai Station.

Yes our hotel was near to this huge Exchange Tower in Sukhumvit at Soi 16 (Soi means "Lane" in Thai). At every corner of the city I could see Lord Buddha's statue.

Well I fell in love with the city as soon as I saw these huge skyscrapers (ya staying in India makes you love every foreign city so much with less traffic and less population. No littering and so much greenery all around).

We finally headed towards exploring the city after getting freshened up. We explored the city of Bangkok. The entire city is well connected with BTS and Skytrain. Taxis can be little costly though. Some key places we visited around the city:

  • MBK mall (mall best for electronics),
  • Terminal 21 Mall (mall designed in a airport fashion with all major cities),
  • Chatuchak Market (the best and the biggest market in Bangkok where you can get cool and cheap stuffs. Mind it is too big, beware of pick-pockets and please Bargain).
  • Many places where Hangover movie was shot.
  • Chao Phraya river
  • The Wat Arun temple,
  • The Grand palace (at the least the outside of grand palace, yes the locals always says that this temple is under renovation so we cant visit the inside, scam I guess)
  • Khao Shan Road (pretty colorful place for shopping and for having some great food and drinks)
  • And some places which is ideally censored. (You know what I mean)

Bangkok Tuk Tuk ride:

The icon of Thailand, Tuk tuks may be noisy, polluting, have no aircon or seatbelts and their owners may be partial to taking advantage of unfortunate tourists as there’s no meter either – but getting an experience of Bangkok’s chemically, and, enhanced air while going down the road at breakneck speed is a quintessential Big experience.

Bangkok Food:
Being a foodie we tried different kind of food in Bangkok. Though almost every dish here had a typical smell of Fish Oil. We were also struggling to find out food which was free of Red Meat or Pork. I am sure it can be a nightmare for pure vegetarians to survive in this city. Must try are Chicken skewers, Fish, Pure Coconut ice-crème, road side frankies. You will also see many push-trucks on roads with different types of oil fried meats.

Bangkok Night Life

Well you are in Bangkok for heaven's sake how can you not enjoy the night life. Any discussion of nightlife in Bangkok can’t ignore the party scene at Khao San Road, while every lane across town seems to have a trendy new bar opening up every week. Clubbers in Bangkok are spoilt for choice too, with big names on Sukhumvit, Silom and the gauntlet of superclubs at RCA all packed-out with tourists and locals most nights of the week. We also had our fare share of the high volume Bangkok Night Life with all kind of cheesy experience.

Bangkok Shopping
Bangkok is really famous for the cheap shopping. Well if you going with your girl squad you are bound to stop at every fashion markets and stalls all over the city. Not only Street fashion but you will find the best branded 1st copy of merchandises all over the city. Bangkok is also very famous for buying cheap electronics. Though at your own discretion.

Well this was our experience of the two day stay in this city. Our next two days was for the beautiful Pattaya city.
